History

St. Thomas’ Church occupies a key location in the Parish of Walbrook Epiphany, at the centre of the Pear Tree District of Derby.

The regular life and ministry at St. Thomas’ came to an end in 2011. Growing bills and the state of repair of the guttering and high level stonework at St. Thomas’ meant that it was increasingly difficult to hold services in St. Thomas’ (especially over the winter months). This meant that the building was placed on the English Heritage “at risk” register.

An amazing service was held in October 2011 to mark the building closure for regular worship, where the Bishop of Derby challenged us as a congregation to be bold and begin to re-imagine what God is calling us to in the St. Thomas’ building in the future.

Plans were put in place to raise Heritage Lottery funding to undertake structural repairs to the building. Alongside this repair project work began to enable the people who support this project and the future of St. Thomas’ Church to engage with the community once more.
